About Parma

Parma is a city of about 80,000 people directly south of Cleveland and the largest suburb of the Cleveland area. Settled by New England farmers in the early 1800s, it grew rapidly after World War II, when families from Cleveland's ethnic neighborhoods moved into new bungalows and ranch houses, giving the city a strong Eastern European heritage.

Parma's best-known feature is its Ukrainian Village along State Road, home to two domed Ukrainian cathedrals, a Ukrainian Catholic eparchy, bakeries, churches and cultural centers. Pierogi, kielbasa and church festivals remain part of everyday life. The Stearns Homestead preserves a 19th-century farm with animals and a museum, recalling the years before the suburb.

Green space comes from Cleveland Metroparks' West Creek Reservation, with wooded ravines and trails, and from the city's own golf course and parks. Downtown Cleveland, the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo and the Cuyahoga Valley National Park are a short drive away.

Best seasonMay to October, for festivals, trails and the homestead farm.
Ideal stayHalf a day, or a base for Cleveland and the Cuyahoga Valley.
ArrivingCleveland Hopkins Airport is about 15 minutes west; downtown Cleveland is about 20 minutes north.
