About Spring

Spring is a large unincorporated community in north Harris County, Texas, about 20 miles north of downtown Houston along Interstate 45. It began in the 1840s as a farming settlement of German immigrants along Spring Creek and grew into a railroad town in the early 1900s when the International-Great Northern Railroad built a large rail yard here.

Today Spring is a sprawling, family-oriented suburb, but its historic heart survives as Old Town Spring, where restored early 20th century houses and newer buildings hold dozens of boutiques, antique shops, galleries and restaurants. Old Town hosts festivals through the year, including the popular Texas Crawfish and Music Festival each spring.

Outdoors, the forested banks of Cypress Creek and Spring Creek are lined with parks and trails. Mercer Botanic Gardens, Jesse H. Jones Park and Nature Center and Pundt Park are all close by, and the Spring Creek Greenway links green spaces along the creek. In summer, families head to Six Flags Hurricane Harbor Splashtown. The Woodlands and George Bush Intercontinental Airport are each about 15 minutes away.

Best seasonOctober to May for mild weather; spring brings the Crawfish Festival and wildflowers.
Ideal stayA day trip from Houston, or a weekend combined with The Woodlands.
ArrivingGeorge Bush Intercontinental Airport is about 15 minutes southeast; Interstate 45 links Spring with Houston.
