College Station is a university city of about 120,000 people in the Brazos Valley of Texas, roughly halfway between Houston and Austin. It grew up around Texas A&M University, founded in 1876 as the state's first public college, and today life here revolves around the huge campus, its traditions and Aggie football.
On fall Saturdays more than 100,000 fans fill Kyle Field, one of the largest stadiums in college football, and the night before home games students gather for Midnight Yell. The George H.W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum, on the west side of campus, covers the life of the 41st president and his wife Barbara, who are buried on its grounds.
Around the campus, the Texas A&M Gardens and the student-run Howdy Farm are pleasant places to stroll, and Century Square offers restaurants, shops and a hotel near the university. Wolf Pen Creek Park has an amphitheater and trails, wildflowers line the roads each spring, and the historic downtown of neighboring Bryan adds music venues, wineries and local restaurants.
Best seasonSeptember to November for football season and cooler weather, and March to April for bluebonnets.
Ideal stayOne to two days for the campus, the Bush Library and a game or downtown Bryan.
ArrivingEasterwood Airport on the Texas A&M campus has flights to Dallas and Houston; Houston's airports are about 100 miles southeast.
