About Saskatoon

Saskatoon sits on both banks of the South Saskatchewan River in central Saskatchewan, its neighborhoods linked by a series of bridges that earned it the nickname City of Bridges. It is the province's largest city, home to the University of Saskatchewan and a growing arts and food scene, while the riverbank parkland gives it a green, walkable core.

The Meewasin Valley Trail follows the river through the heart of the city, connecting most of the main sights. The castle-like Delta Bessborough, a former railway hotel, overlooks the water, and the Broadway Bridge leads across to Broadway Avenue and Nutana, the city's oldest neighborhoods, with cafés, theaters and shops. Remai Modern, the contemporary art museum, holds a notable collection of Picasso linocuts. The Saskatoon Farmers Market at River Landing showcases local produce, while the Ukrainian Museum of Canada reflects the region's heritage. The Western Development Museum recreates an early prairie boomtown street indoors.

For a relaxed city break with easy access to nature, Saskatoon works well in summer, when long evenings bring people to the riverbanks. The Forestry Farm Park and Zoo is a family favorite, and Wanuskewin Heritage Park, on the city's northern edge, explores thousands of years of Northern Plains Indigenous history. Winters are cold, but trails stay active for skiing.

Best seasonJune through September, with warm weather, riverbank festivals and long daylight hours.
Ideal stayTwo to three days for downtown, the river trails and Wanuskewin.
ArrivingSaskatoon John G. Diefenbaker International Airport has flights across Canada; VIA Rail also stops in the city.
