About Regina

Regina, Saskatchewan's capital, stands on a flat stretch of prairie that was once nearly treeless. Planted parks and a man-made lake now soften the landscape, and the city's grand public buildings reflect its role as the seat of government. It is also known as the training home of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

Wascana Centre, one of North America's larger urban parks, surrounds Wascana Lake and connects many of the main sights. Walking or cycling paths circle the water, and Willow Island is a popular picnic spot. The domed Saskatchewan Legislative Building overlooks the lake and offers free tours. Within the park, the Royal Saskatchewan Museum covers natural history and Indigenous cultures, while the Saskatchewan Science Centre features hands-on exhibits and the MacKenzie Art Gallery displays Canadian and international works. The RCMP Heritage Centre tells the story of the force, and Government House preserves the former residence of territorial and provincial leaders.

Prairie history buffs and cross-country drivers make up much of the visitor traffic. Downtown's Victoria Park hosts summer events, and football fans may catch a Saskatchewan Roughriders game. Winters are cold and long, while summers are warm and sunny with long evenings.

Best seasonJune through August, when parks, festivals and patios are at their liveliest.
