About San Dimas

San Dimas is a small city of about 34,000 people at the foot of the San Gabriel Mountains in eastern Los Angeles County, about 30 miles east of downtown Los Angeles. It grew up as a railroad and citrus town in the late 1800s and still keeps a western flavor, with wooden boardwalks and false-front buildings along its downtown streets. Many people know the name from the 1989 comedy Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, set in San Dimas.

The city's biggest draw is Frank G. Bonelli Regional Park, which surrounds Puddingstone Reservoir and holds the Raging Waters water park. Hikers and families head north to San Dimas Canyon Nature Center and the foothill trails, while the restored 1880s San Dimas Hotel and the railroad museum recall the town's early days.

San Dimas is a relaxed base for the eastern San Gabriel Valley, with the Fairplex in Pomona, the Claremont colleges and Mount Baldy all a short drive away.

Best seasonSpring and fall for hiking; summer for Raging Waters and lake days, though inland heat can be strong.
Ideal stayOne day for the park and downtown, or two with a water park day.
ArrivingOntario International Airport is about 20 minutes east; Los Angeles International is about an hour west. The I-210 and SR 57 serve the city.
