About Rancho Cucamonga

Rancho Cucamonga lies on a gentle slope at the foot of the San Gabriel Mountains, where snowy peaks rise just north of town in winter. The land was once Rancho Cucamonga, granted to Tiburcio Tapia in 1839, and vineyards planted here in the 1800s made the Cucamonga Valley one of the largest wine regions in America. The brick John Rains House of 1860 survives as a reminder of the rancho days.

Later, Route 66 ran through along Foothill Boulevard, lined with vineyards, citrus groves and roadside stops. In 1977 the farm communities of Alta Loma, Cucamonga and Etiwanda joined to form the city of Rancho Cucamonga, which grew into a well-planned suburb known for its parks, trails and family neighborhoods.

Today visitors enjoy Victoria Gardens, an outdoor town center with shops, restaurants and the Lewis Family Playhouse, and summer evenings at Rancho Cucamonga Quakes minor league baseball games. Route 66 history comes alive at the restored Cucamonga Service Station, while foothill trails lead to Etiwanda Falls and the Pacific Electric Trail crosses the city for biking and walking.

Best seasonOctober to May; winter and spring bring snow-capped mountain views and wildflowers, while summers are hot.
Ideal stayOne day for Victoria Gardens, Route 66 sights, a foothill hike and a ballgame.
ArrivingOntario International Airport is about 10 minutes south, Metrolink trains stop at Rancho Cucamonga station, and Interstates 10 and 15 and State Route 210 serve the city.
