About West Covina
West Covina is a suburban city in the eastern San Gabriel Valley of Los Angeles County, set against the low Puente Hills about 20 miles east of downtown Los Angeles. The area was once part of Rancho La Puente and later covered with walnut groves and orange orchards. West Covina incorporated as a city in 1923, and after World War II it grew rapidly as new neighborhoods replaced the groves.
Today the city is a busy residential community with a diverse population and plenty of shopping, centered on Plaza West Covina and the shops and restaurants along the freeway. The civic center and its lawns sit near the heart of the city.
Outdoor space is close by. Galster Wilderness Park protects a pocket of native hillside with nature trails, Heritage Gardens Park and the Hurst Ranch preserve a glimpse of the valley's farming past, and the Puente Hills and nearby Schabarum Regional Park offer trails with views over the valley.
