About Glendora

Glendora is a city of about 52,000 people at the foot of the San Gabriel Mountains in Los Angeles County, about 25 miles east of downtown Los Angeles. Founded in 1887 and once surrounded by citrus groves, it calls itself the Pride of the Foothills, and the mountains rise steeply right behind its neighborhoods.

The walkable Glendora Village has shops, cafes and restaurants under shade trees, and nearby stands a giant bougainvillea vine planted in the early 1900s. Rubel Castle, a folk-art castle built of river rock and salvaged materials by Michael Rubel, is one of the region's most unusual sights and is shown on guided tours. Historic Route 66 crosses the city on Alosta Avenue.

Outdoor time is a big draw. The South Hills Wilderness Area and Big Dalton Canyon offer hiking close to town, while Glendora Mountain Road climbs into the Angeles National Forest with sweeping views, popular with cyclists and drivers. Morris Dam and San Gabriel Canyon lie just beyond the city.

Best seasonOctober to May, when the foothill trails are cooler and greener.
Ideal stayOne day of hiking and the Village, or a half day as a stop on Route 66.
ArrivingOntario International Airport is about 25 minutes east; the Metro A Line stops at Glendora station and I-210 runs through the city.
