About Chino

Chino lies in the southwestern corner of San Bernardino County, in a broad valley at the western edge of the Inland Empire. The land was part of Rancho Santa Ana del Chino, a Mexican land grant of the 1840s, and in 1887 Richard Gird laid out the town and promoted it for farming, including a large sugar beet factory. Chino was incorporated in 1910 and was long known for its dairies, which once gave the area one of the highest numbers of dairy cows in the country.

Today Chino is a growing city of new neighborhoods, but its farming roots remain in places such as the Yorba-Slaughter Adobe, a rancho era home from the 1850s, and the city's historic downtown.

Aviation fans come for Chino Airport, home to the Planes of Fame Air Museum and the Yanks Air Museum, which display and restore historic aircraft. The nearby Prado Regional Park and Chino Hills State Park offer lakes, open space and trails.

Best seasonOctober to May for mild days and clear mountain views; summers are hot.
Ideal stayHalf a day to a day for the air museums, the Yorba-Slaughter Adobe and Prado Regional Park.
ArrivingOntario International Airport is about 15 minutes away, and State Routes 60 and 71 serve the city.
