About Fort Langley

Fort Langley is a small heritage village on the south bank of the Fraser River, within the Township of Langley in Metro Vancouver's eastern suburbs. It grew around a Hudson's Bay Company trading post established in the early nineteenth century, and the colony of British Columbia was proclaimed here in 1858, earning the village its nickname as the birthplace of the province. Old storefronts, tree-lined streets and farmland nearby give it a small-town feel within reach of the city.

The Fort Langley National Historic Site recreates the trading post with reconstructed buildings, costumed interpreters and demonstrations of fur trade life. Glover Road, the main street, is lined with antique shops, cafes and boutiques, and the heritage Fort Langley Community Hall is a local landmark. A walkway follows the Fraser River and connects to Marina Park, and a bridge leads to Brae Island Regional Park, with riverside trails and camping. The BC Farm Museum displays old agricultural equipment, while the Langley Centennial Museum covers local history. Just outside the village, Krause Berry Farms and Domaine de Chaberton Estate Winery reflect the area's farming roots, and Campbell Valley Regional Park offers trails and horse paths.

Fort Langley suits families, history buffs and visitors looking for an easy day out from Vancouver. Weekends are busy in summer, and fall brings harvest events.

Best seasonSummer and early fall for farm visits, riverside walks and outdoor historic site programs.
Ideal stayA full day suits most visitors; stay overnight to add parks and wineries.
ArrivingVisitors drive from Vancouver via Highway 1, about an hour's trip depending on traffic.
