About Williamsport

Every August the eyes of the baseball world turn to Williamsport, where Carl Stotz founded Little League in 1939 and where the Little League World Series crowns its champions on the hillside fields just across the West Branch of the Susquehanna River. The rest of the year this Lycoming County seat is a quieter river city framed by the ridges of north-central Pennsylvania.

In the late 1800s Williamsport floated more logs down the Susquehanna than almost anywhere in the world, and the lumber boom is said to have made it home to more millionaires per capita than any other American city. Their Victorian and Queen Anne mansions still line West Fourth Street, now known as Millionaires' Row, close to the Thomas T. Taber Museum and the domed James V. Brown Library.

Downtown has a restored 1928 movie palace, cafes and brewpubs around Pine Street and Market Square, while historic Bowman Field hosts summer baseball. The Hiawatha paddlewheeler cruises the river, a levee-top Riverwalk links the riverside towns, and Pine Creek Gorge, the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon, is about an hour's drive away.

Best seasonLate spring to early fall; mid to late August brings the Little League World Series and big crowds.
Ideal stayOne to two days for the Little League sites, Millionaires' Row and a river cruise.
ArrivingWilliamsport Regional Airport is just east of the city; Interstate 180 and US 15 connect it to I-80 and Harrisburg.
