About Greenburgh

Greenburgh is a town in Westchester County, about 25 miles north of Manhattan, stretching from the Hudson River east toward the Bronx River Parkway. It contains the river villages of Tarrytown, Irvington, Dobbs Ferry and Hastings-on-Hudson, the inland villages of Ardsley and Elmsford, and hamlets such as Hartsdale and Edgemont.

The Hudson shore is the heart of Washington Irving country. Sunnyside, the author's romantic riverside cottage, and Lyndhurst, a Gothic Revival mansion later owned by railroad tycoon Jay Gould, are two of the finest historic homes in the valley, and Irvington's Armour-Stiner Octagon House is a rare domed curiosity. The Old Croton Aqueduct Trail links the river villages on a shady path.

Inland, the Hartsdale Pet Cemetery, the oldest in the country, and the Greenburgh Nature Center offer quieter visits, while V. Everit Macy Park has woods and ponds. The shared path on the Mario M. Cuomo Bridge gives sweeping river views, and Metro-North trains make day trips from New York City easy.

Best seasonMay to June and September to October; October is busy with Halloween events in the Hudson Valley.
Ideal stayOne to two days for the historic homes, trails and river villages.
ArrivingMetro-North's Hudson Line stops at Tarrytown, Irvington, Dobbs Ferry and Hastings; Westchester County Airport is about 20 minutes away.
