About Centennial
Centennial is one of Colorado's youngest cities: it was created in 2001, when residents of the suburbs south of Denver voted to incorporate, partly to stop being annexed by their neighbors. That makes it a large city with a short history, spread across Arapahoe County between Littleton and Aurora, with clear views of the Front Range from many streets.
Life here centers on parks, trails and neighborhood shopping rather than big museums. The High Line Canal and Big Dry Creek trails thread greenbelts through the city, and Centennial Center Park gives families a modern playground and water features. The old Southglenn Mall was rebuilt as The Streets at SouthGlenn, an open-air main street. Centennial Airport, one of the busiest general aviation airports in the country, sits on the city's edge.
Light rail stations at Dry Creek and nearby Arapahoe make it easy to reach downtown Denver, and the foothills around Red Rocks and Roxborough are under an hour away.
Best seasonMay to October for trail riding and park days; autumn brings golden cottonwoods along the canal.
Ideal stayA day for trails and SouthGlenn, or a few nights as a base for Denver and the foothills.
ArrivingDenver International Airport is about 35 minutes northeast via E-470; RTD light rail links Centennial to downtown Denver.
