About Citrus Heights
Citrus Heights is a suburban city in northeastern Sacramento County, set among oak-shaded neighborhoods and creeks between Sacramento and the Sierra Nevada foothills. The area was once known as Sylvan, after the school and cemetery founded here in the 1860s, and it later took the name Citrus Heights when developers promoted the land for citrus growing in the early 1900s. The city was incorporated in 1997.
Citrus Heights grew rapidly after World War II into a residential community, and today it is known for its parks, shopping and a friendly, small town spirit within the Sacramento region. Sunrise Mall and the shops along Sunrise Boulevard and Greenback Lane draw shoppers from across the area.
The city's green spaces include Rusch Park with its community center, the oak woodlands of C-Bar-C Park and the trails along Arcade Creek and Cripple Creek. The historic Sylvan Cemetery recalls pioneer days, and Folsom Lake and the American River are only a short drive away.
