About West Sacramento
West Sacramento is a city of about 55,000 people on the west bank of the Sacramento River in Yolo County, California, directly across from downtown Sacramento. It was formed in 1987 by merging several river communities, including Broderick and Bryte, and it is linked to the capital by the golden Tower Bridge and the I Street Bridge.
Once mostly warehouses, rail yards and the deepwater Port of West Sacramento, the riverfront has been transformed by the Bridge District, a new neighborhood of apartments, restaurants and The Barn, an eye-catching open-air event pavilion. Next door, Sutter Health Park is home to the Sacramento River Cats, the San Francisco Giants' Triple-A team, and has also served as a temporary home for the Athletics.
Visitors walk or bike the River Walk along the levee for views of Sacramento's skyline and Tower Bridge, follow the Clarksburg Branch Line Trail south past farmland, and drive into the Delta to taste wine at the Old Sugar Mill in Clarksburg. Downtown Sacramento's museums and Old Sacramento are a short walk across the river.
