About Roseville

Roseville grew up in the 1860s at the junction of the Central Pacific Railroad and the California Central Railroad, first known simply as Junction. In 1906 the Southern Pacific moved its main rail yards here from Rocklin, and Roseville became one of the largest railroad towns in the West, with a huge yard where trains were serviced before crossing the Sierra Nevada. It was incorporated in 1909.

The railroad still runs through the heart of the city, and Union Pacific's yards remain among the largest on the West Coast. Historic Old Town Roseville and the downtown along Vernon Street, entered through a distinctive arch, keep brick storefronts from the early 1900s and the Art Deco Tower Theatre of 1940.

Since the 1990s Roseville has grown rapidly into one of the largest cities in the Sacramento region, with large shopping and entertainment centers such as the Galleria, new neighborhoods and plenty of parks. Visitors enjoy Maidu Regional Park and its museum of Native heritage, the Miners Ravine and Dry Creek trails, and easy trips to Folsom Lake and the Sierra foothills.

Best seasonMarch to May and September to November; summers are hot and dry, and winter is cool and green.
Ideal stayOne day for downtown, Old Town, the Maidu Museum and the trails, plus shopping at the Galleria.
ArrivingSacramento International Airport is about 30 minutes west, Amtrak's Capitol Corridor stops in Roseville, and Interstate 80 runs through the city.
