About Lincoln

Lincoln is a fast-growing city of about 50,000 people in western Placer County, California, about 30 miles northeast of Sacramento in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada. Founded in the 1850s as a railroad town, it became known for clay: since 1875 the Gladding McBean company has produced architectural terra cotta, pipe and pottery here, and its work decorates landmark buildings across the West.

The historic downtown along G Street keeps a small-town character, with the 1909 Carnegie library, the restored Beermann's building, cafes and local shops. McBean Park is home to a summer collegiate baseball team, and Auburn Ravine runs through town with shaded paths and parks where salmon return in autumn.

Much of Lincoln's growth has come from master-planned neighborhoods such as Sun City Lincoln Hills, surrounded by oak savanna, vernal pool grasslands and golf courses. Thunder Valley Casino Resort just outside town is a major entertainment venue, and the Gold Country towns of Auburn and the Sierra foothills are a short drive away.

Best seasonMarch to May for green hills and wildflowers, and October to November for mild days.
Ideal stayHalf a day for downtown and Gladding McBean, or a quiet base for Sacramento and Gold Country.
ArrivingSacramento International Airport is about 30 minutes southwest via Highway 65 and Interstate 80.
