About Warren

In 1899 the Packard brothers built their first automobile in Warren, and the National Packard Museum downtown still gleams with the cars that made the name famous. Warren, the seat of Trumbull County on the Mahoning River in northeast Ohio, was also among the first towns in the country to light its streets with electricity, thanks to the same inventive family.

The town grew up around Courthouse Square, a green surrounded by Victorian commercial blocks, churches and the 1890s Trumbull County Courthouse. Warren played a part in the women's suffrage movement too: the Harriet Taylor Upton House served as the headquarters of the national suffrage association in the early 1900s.

Modern Warren mixes that history with music. The W.D. Packard Music Hall stages concerts and shows, the riverside amphitheater hosts free summer events, and Dave Grohl Alley, a mural-covered lane, honors the rock drummer born here. Mosquito Lake State Park lies a short drive north for fishing and boating.

Best seasonMay to September, when the amphitheater and downtown events are in full swing.
Ideal stayOne day, or a weekend with Youngstown and Mosquito Lake.
ArrivingYoungstown is about 15 miles southeast and Cleveland about an hour west; Cleveland Hopkins and Pittsburgh are the nearest major airports.
