About Canton

Canton is a city of about 70,000 people in northeast Ohio, about an hour south of Cleveland, best known as the birthplace of the National Football League and home of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. It was also the hometown of President William McKinley, and his legacy is woven throughout the city.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame draws fans from around the world to see its busts of legends, Super Bowl rings and interactive exhibits, and each August the Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival brings parades, concerts and the opening preseason game. The domed McKinley National Memorial, where the president and his family are entombed, rises above a park next to the McKinley Presidential Library and Museum, which includes a planetarium and a Street of Shops.

Downtown Canton has a lively Arts District with murals, galleries and First Friday events, along with the historic Canton Palace Theatre and the Canton Museum of Art. The First Ladies National Historic Site in the Saxton House honors America's first ladies, and the Canton Classic Car Museum displays rare vintage vehicles.

Best seasonMay to October, especially early August for the Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival.
Ideal stayOne to two days for the Hall of Fame, McKinley sites and downtown.
ArrivingAkron-Canton Airport is about 15 minutes north; Cleveland Hopkins is about an hour away.
