About Tigard

Tigard is a city of about 55,000 people in Washington County, Oregon, about 10 miles southwest of downtown Portland. It is named for Wilson Tigard, who settled here in 1852, and it grew from a farming crossroads into a busy suburb with a compact older downtown, large shopping areas and many parks along creeks and the Tualatin River.

Historic Main Street has local cafes, breweries and shops, and the Tigard Street Heritage Trail turns a former rail corridor into a walking path with public art. The 1880 John Tigard House recalls the founding family, and the vintage Joy Cinema is a neighborhood favorite. Cook Park, on the Tualatin River, is the city's largest park, with trails, sports fields and river access.

Shoppers head to Washington Square, one of the largest malls in the Portland area, and thrill seekers can try indoor skydiving at iFLY. The Fanno Creek Trail links parks through the city, and Portland, the Tualatin Valley wineries and the Oregon coast are all within easy reach.

Best seasonJune to September for dry weather on the trails and river.
Ideal stayHalf a day, or a base for Portland and wine country.
ArrivingPortland International Airport is about 30 minutes northeast; the WES commuter train stops in downtown Tigard, and I-5 and Highway 217 cross the city.
