Beaverton is a city of about 100,000 people in the Tualatin Valley, about 7 miles west of downtown Portland. Named for the beaver dams that once covered the area's wetlands, it grew from a farming town into the heart of Oregon's Silicon Forest, home to Nike's world headquarters and many tech companies.
The Beaverton Farmers Market is one of the largest in Oregon, filling downtown on Saturdays from spring to fall, and the city's food scene reflects its many cultures, with Korean, Vietnamese, Indian and Mexican restaurants across town. The Round, a ring of shops and apartments around a MAX light rail station, and the Beaverton Town Square with its clock tower are local landmarks, and the Beaverton City Library has a striking modern building beside the city park.
The Tualatin Hills Park and Recreation District runs dozens of parks, including the Tualatin Hills Nature Park, a wooded refuge with trails and an interpretive center right in the middle of the city. Cooper Mountain Nature Park offers valley views, and the Patricia Reser Center for the Arts hosts concerts and theater.
Protected nature park of about 220 acres in the middle of Beaverton, with forest, wetlands and streams crossed by paved and soft trails. An interpretive center has exhibits and nature programs. It is next to a MAX light rail stop, so it is easy to reach without a car.
Hilltop nature park on the south edge of Beaverton with oak woodland, prairie and conifer forest, plus trails with views over the Tualatin Valley. A nature house hosts classes. Come in spring for wildflowers and on clear days for views toward the Coast Range.
Neighborhood park around a small lake with a paved walking loop, fishing spots, a playground and plenty of ducks and geese. It is shaded by tall trees and easy for kids and strollers. Come for a calm walk, and bring a fishing license if you plan to cast a line.
Small park next to the library in central Beaverton, with lawns, a fountain and paths. On market days it sits beside the busy Beaverton Farmers Market, and it hosts summer concerts. It is a good place to rest with food from the market or nearby downtown restaurants.
One of Oregon's largest farmers markets that sells only local agricultural goods, with fresh produce, berries, flowers, baked goods and prepared food. It runs on Saturdays in season, with extra summer days. Arrive early for the best selection and bring cash or cards.
Large Asian supermarket with groceries from Japan, Korea, China and Southeast Asia, plus a food court, fresh seafood and a gift area. It is a fun place to browse snacks and kitchen goods. Eat lunch at the food court and pick up treats that are hard to find elsewhere.
Performing arts center that opened in 2022 near The Round, with a main theater, a gallery and outdoor plaza. It hosts concerts, dance, theater, comedy and community events. Check the calendar for shows, and visit the free gallery during open hours.
Mixed-use area around the Beaverton Central MAX station with restaurants, offices and apartments set around a circular plaza. It is close to the arts center and city hall. Take the MAX here, eat at one of the restaurants and walk over to the arts center for a show.
Central Beaverton's older streets, packed with small restaurants from many cuisines, coffee shops and local businesses. It is known as a strong food area for its size. Walk around to pick a spot for lunch or dinner, and combine it with the nearby farmers market on market days.
Main public library of Beaverton, known for its large reading room with wooden columns shaped like trees. It has a children's area, events and free Wi-Fi. Stop in to see the building, and check the events board for story times and talks.
Historic early 1900s country estate with a main house, stable and other buildings set in gardens and woodlands. It is run by the local park district and used for weddings, events and classes. Walk the gardens and trails when no private events are booked.
