About Corvallis

Corvallis is a city of about 60,000 people in the heart of Oregon's Willamette Valley, set on the west bank of the Willamette River where the Marys River joins it. Its name comes from the Latin for heart of the valley. It is the seat of Benton County and home to Oregon State University, which shapes the city's youthful, outdoorsy character.

The compact downtown runs along the river, with a riverfront park, independent shops, cafes and brewpubs, and the historic 1888 Benton County Courthouse. The Oregon State campus, with its brick halls and leafy quads, is a short walk away, and Reser Stadium fills with Beavers fans on fall Saturdays.

Corvallis is a gateway to the outdoors. Trails climb into Bald Hill Natural Area, Chip Ross Park and the McDonald-Dunn Research Forest, while Marys Peak, the highest summit in the Oregon Coast Range, rises to the west. The William L. Finley National Wildlife Refuge lies to the south, and Willamette Valley wineries, Eugene, Salem and the Pacific coast are all within about an hour.

Best seasonMay to October for dry, sunny weather, farmers markets and hiking.
Ideal stayTwo to three days to see the town, campus and nearby trails.
ArrivingEugene Airport is about 45 minutes south and Portland International about 90 minutes north; Amtrak stops in nearby Albany.
