About Palm Bay

Palm Bay is the largest city in Brevard County on Florida's Space Coast, home to about 125,000 people along the Indian River Lagoon. It grew rapidly from a small fishing and farming settlement after the 1950s, when the space program and aerospace companies brought thousands of new residents, and rocket launches from Cape Canaveral can often be seen lighting up the northern sky.

Turkey Creek Sanctuary is the city's natural treasure, with a boardwalk through hammock forest along a winding creek where manatees, turtles and wading birds are often spotted. Castaway Point Park, on the Indian River Lagoon, has docks, a small beach and wide views across the water, and the bayfront is a peaceful spot for sunset.

Palm Bay is also a gateway to the Space Coast. The Atlantic beaches of Melbourne Beach and Sebastian Inlet are a short drive east, the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex is about an hour north, and the St. Johns River marshes to the west offer airboat rides and wildlife.

Best seasonNovember to April for mild weather, manatee spotting and clear skies for rocket launches.
Ideal stayHalf a day for Turkey Creek and the lagoon, longer as a base for the Space Coast.
ArrivingMelbourne Orlando International Airport is about 10 miles north, and Orlando International is about 70 miles northwest.
