About Ormond Beach

Ormond Beach is a city of about 45,000 people in Volusia County on Florida's Atlantic coast, just north of Daytona Beach. It spans both sides of the Halifax River, with wide beaches on the barrier island and older neighborhoods, rivers and woods on the mainland.

In the 1890s Henry Flagler's railroad and the grand Hotel Ormond made it a winter resort, and in the early 1900s pioneers of the automobile raced on its hard-packed sand, earning it the title Birthplace of Speed. Oil magnate John D. Rockefeller spent his winters at The Casements from 1918 until his death in 1937, and his home is now a city cultural center. Older history survives in the coquina ruins of plantations destroyed in the Second Seminole War.

Today visitors enjoy the beach, the Ormond Memorial Art Museum and its gardens, and the shaded Ormond Scenic Loop and Trail. Tomoka State Park and Bulow Creek State Park protect live oak forests and marshes, and Daytona Beach and St. Augustine are within easy reach.

Best seasonOctober to May for mild weather; summer is hot and humid with afternoon storms.
Ideal stayTwo to three days, combined with Daytona Beach.
ArrivingDaytona Beach International Airport is about 20 minutes away and Orlando International about an hour and a quarter.
