About Titusville

Titusville is a city of about 50,000 people on the Indian River Lagoon in Brevard County, Florida, directly across the water from the launch pads of the Kennedy Space Center. Founded after the Civil War by Colonel Henry Titus, it was a small river port and citrus town until the space program arrived in the 1950s and 1960s, earning it the nickname Space City USA.

Rocket launches are the big draw: crowds gather at Space View Park and along the riverfront to watch liftoffs from Cape Canaveral and the Kennedy Space Center. The Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex is a short drive east, while downtown holds the American Space Museum and Space Walk of Fame, and the Valiant Air Command Warbird Museum displays historic aircraft at the city airport.

Titusville is also the gateway to wild Florida. Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, with Black Point Wildlife Drive and manatee viewing at Haulover Canal, lies just east, and Playalinda Beach in Canaveral National Seashore offers undeveloped sands. Downtown has the Pritchard House and the North Brevard Historical Museum.

Best seasonNovember to April for mild weather and birding; check the launch schedule any time of year.
Ideal stayTwo to three days for the Space Center, the refuge, the beach and a launch.
ArrivingOrlando International Airport is about 45 minutes away by car; I-95 runs along the west side of the city.
