About Medford

Medford is the largest city in southern Oregon, with about 86,000 people in the Rogue Valley surrounded by mountains, orchards and vineyards. Famous for its pears and as the home of Harry and David, it is the main gateway to Crater Lake National Park, the Rogue River and the arts town of Ashland.

The historic downtown has well-preserved brick buildings like the Palm Building and Fluhrer Bakery, the restored 1930 Holly Theatre, the Carnegie Library and Vogel Plaza, home to art and festivals. Harry and David's Country Village store offers fruit baskets and tours, and Harry and David Field hosts summer baseball.

Bear Creek Park and the Bear Creek Greenway offer miles of trails, and the Upper and Lower Table Rocks nearby are flat-topped mesas with spring wildflowers and valley views. Dozens of Rogue Valley wineries are within a short drive, and Crater Lake, the Oregon Caves and white-water rafting on the Rogue River make Medford a great base for outdoor trips.

Best seasonApril to October, with spring pear blossoms, summer river trips and fall harvest at the wineries.
Ideal stayOne day in town, three to four days with Crater Lake, Ashland and the Rogue River.
ArrivingRogue Valley International-Medford Airport is in the city, with flights to West Coast hubs.
