About Spring Hill

Spring Hill is a large community in Hernando County on Florida's Nature Coast, about an hour north of Tampa. It grew from a planned development laid out in the late 1960s into one of the biggest communities on the Gulf side of the state, with quiet residential streets, golf courses and easy access to springs, rivers and the coast.

The area's best-known attraction is Weeki Wachee Springs State Park, where live mermaid shows have been performed in an underwater theater since 1947. The clear, spring-fed Weeki Wachee River flows from there toward the Gulf and is a favorite for kayaking, paddleboarding and spotting manatees in the cooler months.

West of town, county parks such as Pine Island, Bayport and Linda Pedersen Park offer beaches, fishing and salt marsh views, while the Weekiwachee Preserve and the Suncoast Trail are good for walking and cycling. Tampa, Clearwater beaches and Crystal River's manatee springs are all within easy day-trip range.

Best seasonOctober to April for mild weather; November to March for manatees in the rivers.
Ideal stayOne to two days for Weeki Wachee, a paddle and the Gulf parks.
ArrivingTampa International Airport is about an hour south via the Suncoast Parkway.
