About Dunedin

Dunedin is a small Gulf Coast city of about 36,000 people in Pinellas County, just north of Clearwater on St. Joseph Sound. Settled in the 1850s and named by Scottish settlers after Edinburgh's Gaelic name, it still celebrates its Scottish roots with bagpipe bands, tartan banners and the spring Dunedin Highland Games.

The heart of town is a walkable downtown on Main Street, with colorful shops, cafes and craft breweries, including Dunedin Brewery, one of the oldest microbreweries in Florida. The Pinellas Trail runs right through the center, and the waterfront marina offers sunset views. Each spring the Toronto Blue Jays play spring training games at TD Ballpark, their home since 1977.

Dunedin's biggest draws are its barrier islands. Honeymoon Island State Park, reached by the Dunedin Causeway, has shelling beaches and an osprey trail, and from there a ferry runs to Caladesi Island State Park, regularly ranked among the best beaches in the country. Clearwater Beach, Tarpon Springs and St. Petersburg are each a short drive away.

Best seasonOctober to May for mild beach weather; March brings spring training and the Highland Games.
Ideal stayTwo to three days for downtown, the islands and a ballgame.
ArrivingTampa International and St. Pete-Clearwater airports are each about 30 to 40 minutes away by car.
