About Nashville

Nashville, Tennessee's capital, sits on the Cumberland River and is known around the world as Music City. Its identity is bound to country music, thanks to the Grand Ole Opry radio show and decades of songwriting and recording on Music Row, though its stages host many genres. The city has grown quickly in recent years, adding restaurants and neighborhoods around its historic core.

The honky-tonks of Lower Broadway offer live music from late morning until late at night. Nearby, the Ryman Auditorium, a former tabernacle and longtime Opry home, still hosts concerts and daytime tours. The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum traces the genre's history, while the Johnny Cash Museum and the National Museum of African American Music widen the story. The John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge crosses the river. The Tennessee State Capitol overlooks Bicentennial Mall, and the Frist Art Museum fills a former post office. In Centennial Park, a full-scale replica of the Parthenon houses a towering statue of Athena. The Grand Ole Opry now performs in its own house east of downtown, and the Bluebird Cafe is famous for intimate songwriter nights.

Nashville suits music fans, groups celebrating together and anyone hungry for hot chicken. Summer is hot and humid. East Nashville, 12 South and the Gulch offer alternatives to Broadway, and Franklin makes an easy day trip.

Best seasonApril to May and September to October offer comfortable temperatures and busy event calendars.
Ideal stayThree days allows the downtown museums, an Opry show and several evenings of live music.
ArrivingNashville International Airport lies just east of downtown, and Interstates 24, 40 and 65 converge on the city.
