About Hendersonville

Hendersonville is a city of about 60,000 people on Old Hickory Lake, about 18 miles northeast of Nashville in Sumner County, Tennessee. Settled in the 1780s and named after early settler William Henderson, it grew from a small community into one of Tennessee's largest cities after the Old Hickory Dam created its lake in the 1950s.

Hendersonville is often called the "City by the Lake" and is famous as the longtime home of country music stars, including Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash, who lived on the lake for decades. Many musicians still live along the shore.

Historic Rock Castle, built in the 1780s by surveyor Daniel Smith, is one of the oldest houses in Middle Tennessee and is open for tours. Drakes Creek Park and Memorial Park have lakeside trails and ball fields, boating and fishing are popular on Old Hickory Lake, and the Streets of Indian Lake offers shops and dining.

Best seasonApril to June and September to October for lake days and mild weather.
