About Bowling Green

Bowling Green is a city of about 75,000 people in south-central Kentucky, the seat of Warren County and one of the largest cities in the state. Founded in 1798 on the Barren River, it served as the Confederate capital of Kentucky early in the Civil War, and later grew into a college town and manufacturing center. It is famous as the only place in the world where Chevrolet Corvettes are built.

The National Corvette Museum, across from the assembly plant, draws car lovers from around the world. Lost River Cave offers underground boat tours, Western Kentucky University's hilltop campus holds the Kentucky Museum, and Riverview at Hobson Grove is a restored 19th-century Italianate mansion. Downtown centers on Fountain Square Park, with restaurants, shops and the Southern Kentucky Performing Arts Center nearby.

Bowling Green is also a handy base for Kentucky's cave country. Mammoth Cave National Park is about 40 minutes north, and Beech Bend Park offers rides, a water park and a racetrack on the edge of town.

Best seasonApril to June and September to October; late summer brings big Corvette gatherings.
Ideal stayTwo days, including a day trip to Mammoth Cave.
ArrivingNashville International Airport is about 75 minutes south via Interstate 65.
