About Morrisville

Morrisville takes its name from Jeremiah Morris, who in 1852 gave land to the North Carolina Railroad for a depot and water tower where roads to Chapel Hill, Raleigh and Hillsborough crossed the tracks. Near the end of the Civil War, in April 1865, Union cavalry clashed with retreating Confederates at Morrisville Station in one of the last cavalry fights of Sherman's campaign, and a truce message delivered here led to the surrender at Bennett Place in Durham.

The small railroad town was chartered in 1875 and stayed quiet for decades, but its location between Raleigh, Durham and Research Triangle Park turned it into one of the fastest-growing towns in North Carolina. Today it is home to Lenovo's operational headquarters and a diverse population, with a lively mix of Indian, Asian and international restaurants.

Morrisville is also an unexpected hub for cricket: Church Street Park has hosted international and Major League Cricket matches. Lake Crabtree County Park offers paddling and trails, William B. Umstead State Park lies next door, and the airport observation park lets you watch planes land at RDU.

Best seasonApril to June and September to October for the lake and trails; summer brings cricket season at Church Street Park.
Ideal stayHalf a day to one day for Lake Crabtree, a cricket match and a meal in town; it is an easy base for Raleigh and Durham.
ArrivingRaleigh-Durham International Airport is right next to town, and Interstate 40 and N.C. 540 run through Morrisville.
