About Holly Springs

Holly Springs grew up around natural springs and holly trees in southern Wake County, and by the time of the Civil War it was a small crossroads village with a Masonic lodge, a school and a few stores. For most of the 20th century it stayed a quiet farm town, but the growth of the Research Triangle changed that, and Holly Springs has become one of the fastest-growing towns in North Carolina, with new neighborhoods, parks and biotech plants.

The town has invested heavily in parks. Bass Lake Park circles a peaceful lake with a fishing pier and wooded trail, Sugg Farm Park offers big open fields and greenways, and Ting Park is home to the Holly Springs Salamanders, a summer collegiate baseball team. The Holly Springs Cultural Center downtown hosts concerts, plays and family shows through the year.

A few historic buildings still stand in the old village center, including the Leslie-Alford-Mims House, and the redeveloped downtown along Main Street is growing with restaurants and shops. Harris Lake County Park is a short drive west for mountain biking and lakeside trails.

Best seasonApril to June and September to October for the lake trails and parks; summer evenings bring Salamanders baseball.
Ideal stayHalf a day to one day covers Bass Lake, downtown and a show or ballgame; add Harris Lake for a longer outdoor day.
ArrivingRaleigh-Durham International Airport is about 30 minutes north, and N.C. 540 and U.S. 1 connect the town with Raleigh and the Triangle.
