About Greenville

Greenville sits in the foothills of the Blue Ridge in South Carolina's Upstate, a former textile center that has rebuilt itself around a lively, tree-lined downtown. The Reedy River runs right through the middle of town, and the decision to reclaim its waterfall as a public park helped spark the city's revival.

Falls Park on the Reedy is the centerpiece, with gardens, walking paths and the curving Liberty Bridge suspended above the falls. From there, Main Street stretches north with restaurants, sidewalk tables and small shops, and the West End holds Fluor Field, where the minor league Greenville Drive plays. Unity Park adds open lawns and river access just west of downtown. The Swamp Rabbit Trail, a converted rail line, carries cyclists and walkers along the river to the small town of Travelers Rest, known for its cafés and breweries. Art lovers head to the Greenville County Museum of Art at Heritage Green, and families pair Cleveland Park with the Greenville Zoo.

Greenville suits weekenders who like walkable streets, good food and quick access to the outdoors. Paris Mountain State Park offers lake swimming and trails just outside town, and the granite dome at Table Rock State Park is a rewarding, steep hike within an hour's drive. Spring and autumn are especially pleasant.

Best seasonApril through May and October bring mild temperatures, blooms or fall color on mountain trails.
Ideal stayA long weekend of two to three days fits downtown, the trail and a state park.
ArrivingGreenville-Spartanburg International Airport serves the area, and I-85 links the city to Atlanta and Charlotte.
