About Plymouth
Plymouth is a city of about 80,000 people in Hennepin County, Minnesota, about 15 miles west of downtown Minneapolis. Settled in the 1850s by farmers drawn to its lakes and rolling woods, it remained a rural township for a century before growing into one of the largest suburbs of the Twin Cities, often ranked among the best places to live in the country.
The city is dotted with lakes, and Medicine Lake, one of the largest in Hennepin County, is lined on its north shore by French Regional Park, with a swimming beach, trails and boating. Parkers Lake and many smaller parks add beaches and paths, and the Luce Line State Trail begins in Plymouth and heads west into farm country.
In summer, outdoor concerts and the Music in Plymouth festival fill the Hilde Performance Center amphitheater. The Plymouth History Center tells the township's story, and the Plymouth Ice Center keeps skaters busy all year. Downtown Minneapolis and the lakes of Minnetonka are short drives away.
