About Brooklyn Park
Brooklyn Park is a city of about 85,000 people in Hennepin County, Minnesota, on the west bank of the Mississippi River roughly 12 miles northwest of downtown Minneapolis. Settled in the 1850s and long a farming township known for its potato fields, it grew quickly after the 1950s into one of the largest suburbs in the Twin Cities and one of the most diverse communities in the state.
The farming past lives on at the Eidem Homestead, a historic farm where costumed interpreters, barns and animals show rural life around 1900, and in Tater Daze, the city's long-running summer festival named for its potato heritage. Along the river, Mississippi Gateway Regional Park surrounds the historic Coon Rapids Dam with trails, picnic areas and river views.
The city also has the public Edinburgh USA golf course, regional trails that link parks and creeks, and a busy Hennepin County library. Downtown Minneapolis, the Mall of America and the lakes of the region are all within easy reach.
Best seasonJune to September, for Tater Daze, river trails and the homestead farm.
