About Maplewood

Lakes, wetlands and a famous golf course hide behind the shopping strips of Maplewood, the suburb that wraps around the northeast edge of Saint Paul. It is best known as the home of 3M, whose large headquarters campus sits on the city's east side, but for visitors its appeal lies in green space that feels surprisingly wild so close to downtown.

Keller Regional Park links Keller and Round lakes to the Phalen chain of lakes, and its neighbor, Keller Golf Course, once hosted the PGA Championship. The Maplewood Nature Center leads walkers along boardwalks through cattail marsh, and the paved Gateway State Trail cuts across town on an old rail line toward Stillwater.

Local history lives at the Bruentrup Heritage Farm, a preserved farmstead run by the area historical society, and each July the Ramsey County Fair fills the fairgrounds with 4-H barns, rides and food stands. Maplewood Mall and the wooded bluffs of Battle Creek Regional Park round out an easy day trip from the Twin Cities.

Best seasonMay to October for trails and lakes; July brings the Ramsey County Fair.
Ideal stayA half day to a full day from Saint Paul or Minneapolis.
ArrivingAbout 15 minutes from downtown Saint Paul via I-694 or Highway 36; Minneapolis-Saint Paul International is about 25 minutes away.
