About Menifee

Menifee lies in southwestern Riverside County, in a broad valley framed by rocky hills and the snowy peaks of the San Jacinto Mountains. The area is named for Luther Menifee Wilson, a miner who found a quartz lode in the hills in the 1880s, and for many decades it was a quiet farming and ranching district of grain fields and dairies. Menifee incorporated as a city in 2008 and has since grown quickly into one of the larger cities in the Inland Empire.

Today the city is a mix of new neighborhoods, parks and shopping, with a modern civic center, a public library and the Menifee Lakes community built around golf courses and small lakes.

The boulder-strewn hills that surround the valley offer hiking trails with wide views and spring wildflowers. Lake Elsinore, Diamond Valley Lake and Temecula Valley Wine Country are all within a short drive, making Menifee a convenient base for exploring the region.

Best seasonFebruary to May for green hills and wildflowers, and October to November for mild days; summers are hot.
Ideal stayHalf a day to a day for parks and hillside trails, or a base for Temecula wine country and nearby lakes.
ArrivingOntario International Airport is about 50 minutes away and San Diego about an hour and a quarter; Interstate 215 runs through the city.
