About Vista

Vista is an inland city in North County San Diego, about seven miles from the ocean at Oceanside, set among rolling hills that enjoy a mild, sunny climate. The area was once part of large Mexican ranchos, and two historic adobes from that era still stand: Rancho Buena Vista, whose name inspired the city, and Rancho Guajome, a National Historic Landmark. Vista grew as an avocado and citrus farming town and was incorporated in 1963.

Today Vista is known for its lively downtown, called Vista Village, and for a large number of craft breweries that have made it one of the busiest brewing towns in San Diego County. The Moonlight Amphitheatre presents outdoor musicals on summer nights.

Visitors can explore the Antique Gas and Steam Engine Museum, stroll the Alta Vista Botanical Gardens on a hillside with views, cool off at The Wave Waterpark, or walk the trails and lake of Guajome Regional Park. The beaches of Oceanside and Carlsbad are a short drive away.

Best seasonPleasant all year; spring and fall are mild and sunny, and summer is warm and ideal for outdoor shows.
Ideal stayOne to two days for the adobes, museums, breweries and gardens, combined with nearby beaches.
ArrivingSan Diego International Airport is about 45 minutes away, the Sprinter train links Vista with Oceanside and Escondido, and State Route 78 crosses the city.
