About Knowlton

Knowlton is the main village of the municipality of Lac-Brome in Quebec's Eastern Townships, an area settled largely by Loyalists and later English-speaking families. Set at the southern end of Brome Lake, it has kept a strong anglophone heritage along with brick and clapboard buildings, church spires and tree-lined streets. Today it is a bilingual country village known for antiques, galleries and good food.

Wandering the village center is the main pleasure, with boutiques, cafés and the glassblowing studio Boutiverre in close range. The Lac-Brome Historical Society Museum occupies several heritage buildings and covers local history in detail. In summer, Douglass Beach offers swimming on Brome Lake, and Theatre Lac-Brome stages English-language productions. The region is closely associated with duck raising, and Canard du Lac Brome is a name food lovers recognize.

Knowlton makes a comfortable base for exploring the surrounding countryside. Dunham's wine route lies to the southwest, and Domaine Pinnacle, known for ice cider, is nearby. Bromont and Mont Sutton bring skiing in winter and mountain biking or hiking in warmer months. The village suits couples and slow travelers who enjoy browsing shops and eating well. Autumn foliage is a particular highlight.

Best seasonSummer for the lake and theater, or late September to mid-October for brilliant foliage.
Ideal stayTwo or three nights allows time for the village plus wineries and nearby mountains.
ArrivingMost visitors drive from Montreal via Autoroute 10, the main road into the Eastern Townships.
