About Clifton Park

Clifton Park is a suburban town of about 38,000 people in southern Saratoga County, New York, on the north bank of the Mohawk River between Albany, Schenectady and Saratoga Springs. Farmland for most of its history, it grew quickly after the Adirondack Northway opened in the 1960s and is now one of the largest towns in the Capital Region.

The town's best-known treasures lie along the river. The Vischer Ferry Nature and Historic Preserve protects a stretch of the old Erie Canal with towpath trails, wetlands full of birds and a restored canal lock, and is home to the cast-iron Whipple bowstring truss bridge. The nearby hamlet of Vischer Ferry keeps 19th century homes and churches, and the stone piers of the old Rexford Aqueduct still stand in the Mohawk.

Clifton Common, the town's central park, hosts summer concerts and the farmers market, and the Mohawk Towpath Scenic Byway follows the river through town. Saratoga Springs, Albany and the Adirondacks are all within an easy drive.

Best seasonMay to October for trails and river views; fall foliage peaks in early October.
Ideal stayHalf a day to a day for the preserve, Vischer Ferry and a river drive.
ArrivingAlbany International Airport is about 15 minutes south via I-87, the Adirondack Northway.
