Dublin is a city of about 72,000 people in the Tri-Valley area of Alameda County, California, where Interstates 580 and 680 meet about 35 miles east of San Francisco. It took its name from the many Irish settlers who arrived in the 1800s, and it was a quiet crossroads stop for travelers until it incorporated in 1982 and grew into one of the fastest-growing cities in the Bay Area.
Dublin celebrates its Irish heritage every March with one of the region's biggest St. Patrick's Day festivals. Its history is preserved at Dublin Heritage Park and Museums, which includes Old St. Raymond's Church from 1859, a pioneer cemetery and the Murray Schoolhouse.
Modern Dublin is known for parks and recreation. Emerald Glen Park is home to The Wave waterpark, Fallon Sports Park offers big playing fields, and Hacienda Crossings near the Dublin/Pleasanton BART station has shops, restaurants and a big cinema. In the hills to the west, Dublin Hills Regional Park has trails with wide views over the valley.

A small white wooden church built in 1859 by early settlers, considered one of the oldest surviving church buildings in Alameda County. Restored as part of Dublin Heritage Park, it is used for weddings and events, and the adjacent pioneer cemetery holds many of the valley's early families. Visit during museum hours.
Dublin's largest city park, with sports fields, playgrounds, a skate park, picnic areas, walking paths and a recreation center. It is also home to The Wave waterpark. On weekends it is busy with families and youth sports, so arrive early for parking. A good place for a relaxed afternoon outdoors.
A large modern sports park in east Dublin with baseball and soccer fields, playgrounds, picnic areas and walking paths, set against the grassy hills of the Tri-Valley. It hosts tournaments and community events. Even if you are not playing, it is a pleasant place for an evening walk with views of the hills.
A city-run waterpark inside Emerald Glen Park, with large water slides, a lazy river, a lap pool, splash areas for young children and an indoor pool for year-round swimming. It is popular on hot Tri-Valley summer days. Buy tickets online for weekends and holidays, and bring sun protection.
An open-air shopping and entertainment center beside Interstate 580 in Dublin, with stores, restaurants and a large multiplex cinema with an IMAX screen. It is a convenient place for dinner and a movie after a day in the parks, and is close to the Dublin/Pleasanton BART station. Parking is free.
An East Bay Regional Park District park in the hills on Dublin's western edge, with trails climbing grassy ridges to Donlon Point for wide views over the Tri-Valley and Mount Diablo. It is greenest and most beautiful in late winter and spring. There is little shade, so bring water and avoid hot afternoons.
A weekend festival held each March, celebrating Dublin's Irish heritage with a parade, Irish music and dance, carnival rides, food and a fun run. It is one of the largest St. Patrick's Day events in Northern California and draws large crowds. Wear green, use BART or arrive early, as parking is limited.
A public golf course in east Dublin, laid out over rolling terrain with views of the surrounding hills, plus a clubhouse and restaurant. Its shorter layout makes it good for casual players and practice rounds. Book tee times online, and play early in the morning in summer to avoid afternoon heat and wind.
