Noblesville is a city of about 75,000 people on the White River in central Indiana, roughly 25 miles north of downtown Indianapolis. Founded in 1823, it is the county seat of Hamilton County, and its courthouse square remains the heart of a walkable historic downtown lined with shops, restaurants and 19th-century storefronts.
The Second Empire-style Hamilton County Courthouse, completed in 1879, anchors the square, and the old sheriff's residence and jail next door is now a museum. Leafy residential streets such as the Conner Street Historic District show off Victorian homes, while Federal Hill Commons and Forest Park offer green space close to downtown.
Noblesville is best known regionally for Ruoff Music Center, a large outdoor amphitheater that hosts major summer concerts. Morse Reservoir is popular for boating, Potter's Bridge Park preserves a historic covered bridge, and Strawtown Koteewi Park protects prairie, woods and archaeological sites along the White River.
The 1879 Second Empire courthouse sits at the center of Noblesville's historic square, surrounded by brick storefronts with local boutiques, cafes, antique shops and restaurants. Walk the four sides of the square, then explore the side streets. Weekend evenings and holiday events bring the biggest crowds.
A brick sheriff's house and attached jail from the 1870s, just off the courthouse square, now run by the Hamilton County Historical Society. Tours show the family quarters, the cell blocks and stories of local crime and law enforcement. Opening hours are limited, so check the schedule before you go.
A wooden covered bridge built in 1871 across the White River north of downtown, now open only to walkers and set within a Hamilton County park. Stroll across the restored bridge, picnic on the banks, launch a canoe or kayak, and follow the trail toward downtown. It is a pretty spot for photos in autumn.
One of the Midwest's largest outdoor amphitheaters, opened in 1989 as Deer Creek Music Center, with covered pavilion seats and a big lawn. Major rock, country and pop tours stop here every summer. Arrive early, as traffic on State Road 37 and in the parking lots can be heavy on show nights.
Noblesville's oldest large park, set among mature trees on the north side of downtown, with a public golf course, an aquatic center, picnic shelters, playgrounds and a historic inn used for events. Families come for summer swimming and shady picnics. Combine it with a walk along the nearby White River.
A modern park on the west bank of the White River, a short walk across the bridge from the courthouse square. It has a performance stage, open lawns, a playground and fitness areas, and hosts free concerts, movie nights and festivals in summer. Bring a blanket for evening shows and grab dinner downtown first.
A large reservoir on Cicero Creek on the north side of Noblesville, lined with homes, marinas and waterfront restaurants. It is popular for pontoon boating, fishing, waterskiing and paddleboarding in summer. Morse Park and Beach offers a public swimming beach and boat launch for visitors without lake access.
A large Hamilton County park northeast of Noblesville with restored tallgrass prairie, woodlands, ponds and White River frontage. The Taylor Center of Natural History explains the area's Native American archaeological sites. Visitors come for hiking, archery, horseback riding and bird watching.
A residential historic district east of the courthouse square, with tree-lined streets of Italianate, Queen Anne and other 19th-century homes built by Noblesville's merchants and professionals. It is a pleasant self-guided walk of about half an hour. Please stay on the sidewalks, as all the homes are private.
An open-air shopping center on the east side of Noblesville near Interstate 69, with national stores, restaurants and a movie theater along pedestrian streets. It is the area's main shopping destination and an easy stop for a meal before a concert at Ruoff Music Center, which is a short drive away.
