About Fishers

Fishers is a fast-growing city of about 100,000 people just northeast of Indianapolis in Hamilton County, often ranked among the best places to live in the United States. Once a small railroad stop, it has grown into a modern suburb with new parks, a lively downtown and one of the Midwest's best-known living history museums.

Conner Prairie, a Smithsonian-affiliated outdoor museum on the White River, brings 19th-century Indiana to life with the 1823 William Conner House, the 1836 Prairietown village with costumed interpreters, hands-on crafts and seasonal events like the Headless Horseman festival and a summer symphony series. The historic West-Harris House is another reminder of the area's pioneer past.

The Nickel Plate District downtown has restaurants, breweries, an amphitheater and a farmers market, while the Ruoff Music Center hosts big summer concerts. Geist Reservoir is popular for boating and waterfront dining, and Ritchey Woods Nature Preserve and the city's trail network offer easy outdoor escapes.

Best seasonMay to October for Conner Prairie, concerts and the reservoir.
Ideal stayOne day for Conner Prairie and downtown, as part of an Indianapolis trip.
