About Maryland Heights

Concert crowds and rowing crews share Maryland Heights, a St. Louis County city in the bottomlands along the Missouri River. Many St. Louisans know it as the home of a riverfront casino and a big outdoor amphitheater, but its greenest asset is Creve Coeur Lake Memorial Park, where an oxbow lake left behind by the river hosts rowing regattas and long lakeside trails.

The city incorporated only in 1985, pulling together farmland, subdivisions and business parks around Interstate 270. Its older story survives at the Payne-Gentry House, a 19th-century farmhouse museum, while Westport Plaza gathers hotels, restaurants and a playhouse into a walkable entertainment district.

Summer nights bring national tours to Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre, and the St. Louis Blues train at the Centene Community Ice Center, which also opens its rinks to the public. Trails from Creve Coeur Lake cross the Missouri River toward St. Charles County and the Katy Trail, making the city a handy base for cyclists.

Best seasonMay to October for amphitheater concerts, lakeside trails and rowing events.
Ideal stayOne day, or an overnight around a concert or casino visit.
ArrivingSt. Louis Lambert International Airport is about 10 minutes northeast via Interstate 270.
