About Chesterfield
Chesterfield is a city of about 50,000 people in western St. Louis County, Missouri, about 25 miles west of downtown St. Louis. It stretches from wooded hills down to the Chesterfield Valley, the flat bottomland along the Missouri River that is now home to outlet malls, sports fields and a regional airport.
The city's best-known attraction is Faust Park, which holds Thornhill, the 1819 estate of Frederick Bates, the second governor of Missouri, along with a historic village of relocated 19th-century buildings. The park also has the restored St. Louis Carousel, a hand-carved antique carousel under a glass pavilion, and the Sophia M. Sachs Butterfly House, where thousands of tropical butterflies fly free in a conservatory.
The Chesterfield Amphitheater hosts summer concerts and movies, and the Monarch-Chesterfield Levee Trail follows the river bottoms. Babler State Park, the Missouri wine country and the attractions of St. Louis are all an easy drive away.
Best seasonApril to October for parks, trails and outdoor concerts; the Butterfly House is open year-round.
