About Tijuana

Tijuana has always been a city of crossings. Pressed against the US border and the Pacific, it grew from a small ranch into one of Mexico's largest and most dynamic cities, a place where millions pass through each year and where cultures, languages and cuisines constantly mix.

In the Prohibition era Americans came south for bars, casinos and racetracks, and Avenida Revolución still carries that history of neon nights. Today the image is changing: craft breweries, art galleries in old passageways, food parks and chefs behind Baja Med cuisine have made the city a destination in its own right. The Caesar salad was born here in the 1920s, and street tacos are a point of local pride.

Beyond downtown, the Tijuana Cultural Center explains the history of the Californias, the beach district of Playas looks across the border fence at Friendship Park, and football fans cheer the Xolos at Estadio Caliente. Remember that crossing the border back to the US can take time.
