About Suita

Suita is a city in northern Osaka Prefecture, Japan, spread over the gentle Senri Hills about 15 km north of central Osaka. It is best known as the home of Expo '70, the world's fair of 1970, whose grounds are now a vast park watched over by Tarō Okamoto's Tower of the Sun, one of the most famous landmarks of modern Japan.

For centuries Suita was a small river port on the Kanzaki River. In modern times it became a beer town, with the brewery that is now Asahi's Suita plant, and a railway town with a great freight yard. From 1962 the hills to the north were turned into Senri New Town, the first large planned new town in Japan, and the Expo brought the city fame. Today Suita is home to about 380,000 people.

Spend a day in Expo '70 Commemorative Park, with the tower, the Japanese Garden and the National Museum of Ethnology. Then visit the aquarium and shops of EXPOCITY next door, catch a Gamba Osaka match, and learn about the city's ancient kilns at the Suita City Museum.
