About Nha Trang

Nha Trang is a coastal city on the South Central Coast of Vietnam, famous for its beaches, its bay and islands, and the ancient Cham towers of Po Nagar. Its top sights are the Po Nagar Towers, Long Son Pagoda with the White Buddha, Nha Trang Cathedral and Hon Tre Island, the largest island in the bay.

Once known as Kauthara under the Kingdom of Champa, Nha Trang was later the capital of Khanh Hoa province. The bacteriologist Alexandre Yersin lived here for 50 years and founded the Pasteur Institute, and the city is a centre of marine science. On 1 July 2025 it ceased to be a municipal city when Vietnam abolished its district-level units.

Nha Trang had about 535,000 people in 2023, and the Hon Mun marine protected area off its coast was among the first four in the world admitted by the IUCN. It is known for fresh seafood and nem nuong pork rolls, and Cam Ranh International Airport, 28 km south of the city, has flights to Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and abroad.
